I was disappointed there was no color print. How could Thomas Eakins know the correct colors of the tunics and robes that the apostles wore. H e could easily have traced a picture of the painting and then painted it in shades of black, gray and white. But color NO. How could he have gotten the color scheme correct. He had to have seen a color print. This I believe to have been a chromolithograph which were popular during that period. These were often given out as inserts in different art publications.

Some time ago I read an article while searching on the internet. It pertained to Andy Warhol’s 1987 New York exhibit of Leonadro’s painting The Last Supper. The exhibit was a huge success. The article stated that the exhibit was conceived around Andy Warhol locating a nice old picture of The Last Supper. That exhibit was the result of of a creative mind. Thanks Andy!
My heart raced. I immediately contacted the Archivist at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA. I explained my situation. After a few e-mails and a great deal of their time it was determined that the picture was not of the period that I sought. I sorrowfully thanked them greatly for their time and efforts.
I am still in search of a chromolithograph copy of The Last Supper. I will keep you posted……If anyone knows the whereabouts of such a picture I would appreciate the tip. Thanks. dan
